Month 18 - What can the child do in the 18th month of its life?

Each baby develops at their own pace and you should not panic when it gains new skills at a slightly slower pace than its age peers. The 18 months child already can:

  • walk independently;
  • climb up and down stairs using a handrail or an assistance of other person;
  • attempt running and walking backwards;
  • climb up a sofa or a ladder set at an angle;
  • climb down backwards from a sofa;
  • say a few words;
  • perform simple commands and understand prohibitions;
  • mimic different voices (especially animals);
  • observe its surroundings and draw conclusions (e.g., know that a locked door means you need to turn a key in the lock).
