Ovulation represents the pinnacle of the menstrual cycle and is the most fertile period for women attempting to conceive. It occurs when a mature egg is released from the dominant follicle in the ovary, typically around the middle of the cycle. The egg itself is viable for a relatively short window—about 12 to 24 hours after release. Sperm, on the other hand, can survive in the female reproductive system for up to five days. This means that sexual activity in the days leading up to ovulation, as well as on the day of ovulation, significantly increases the chances of conception.
