Mommy, I'm like a kiwi (7cm, 23 grams)

I'm entering the second trimester! My bones begin ossifying in a process called ossification - calcium carbonate replaces soft cartilage, though this process will continue until adulthood. Kidneys function regularly, producing urine every 30-45 minutes and emptying the bladder. My vocal cords form in the larynx. The pancreas begins producing insulin, a hormone regulating blood sugar levels. Amniotic fluid now consists mainly of my urine and fluid produced by the lungs. My brain starts controlling some movements, which become less chaotic and more purposeful.

Remember mom, every child develops at their own pace and has their unique timeline. If you have any doubts about my development in your belly, consult with a doctor.
