When should I go to the hospital?
A common guideline is the 5-1-1 rule: contractions every 5 minutes, lasting 1 minute, for at least 1 hour. Always follow the advice of your midwife or doctor — call them whenever you are unsure.
How do I time contractions?
Start the timer when the tightening begins and stop it when it fully eases. The time between contractions is measured from the start of one to the start of the next.
How are real contractions different from Braxton Hicks?
Braxton Hicks contractions are irregular and usually fade with rest or a change of position. Labour contractions come at regular, shortening intervals and grow longer and stronger.
